Havertz had only recently returned to full fitness after a hamstring tear he suffered during a training camp in Dubai that ruled him out for 18 matches across the Premier League and Champions League. His absence from February to April was keenly felt, with several players stepping in to cover, including midfielder Mikel Merino, who had a brief spell as a makeshift No.9.
New signing Viktor Gyokeres is currently the only fit and available recognised striker behind Havertz, leaving Arteta with limited choices. Leandro Trossard, who recently committed his future to the club with a new contract, has also been used as a forward in the past. While capable in the centre, the Belgian is naturally a winger and may not provide the same level of goalscoring threat as a striker.
Adding to the club’s concerns is the ongoing recovery of Gabriel Jesus, who is still working his way back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January.
While the club navigates through the injury crisis, Arsenal’s focus shifts to the upcoming Premier League match against Leeds United this Saturday.
